Highways to the Past

Join us as we take a trip into the past and explore an intriguing ancient site in Central Bedfordshire. Now referred to as Field 44, 2,000 years ago there was a farm here, but it wasn’t just any farm. Archaeologists have found huge roundhouses and evidence of beer brewing. What do these clues tell us about the people who lived here? How did the farm change and develop? What was the environment like at this time? In this podcast, you’ll meet some of the people working to answer these questions and join the journey as we gradually reveal the story of this complex site. Field 44 is currently being excavated by archaeologists from MOLA and Cambridge Archaeological Unit, as part of the proposed National Highways A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet improvement scheme managed by Skanska.
